Medical Education

The SIUT is an independent private degree awarding institution, recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan in 2009. A range of training programs are offered for undergraduate and postgraduates studies primarily in the field of renal diseases and transplant for doctors, medical technologists and nurses. The Centre of Biomedical Ethics and Culture (CBEC) offers a one year postgraduate diploma in biomedical ethics (PGD) and a two year masters (MBE) in bioethics. Research is also an intrinsic part of education in medicine and constitutes an important element of the studies.

Postgraduate Medical Traning at SIUT

There are training programs in urology, nephrology and transplantation. SIUT prepares doctors for Fellowships and Memberships of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) and offers research-based degrees: MS/MD in Urology and Nephrology, and MPhil and PhD in the Basic Biomedical Sciences.

SIUT is Recognized by the CPSP for Training in the following:

• MCPS/IM:

  2 year programs in Diagnostic Radiology and the Intermediate Module (IM) in General Surgery

• FCPS:
• 3 year programs in Urology, Nephrology and Gastroenterology (after the Intermediate Module)
• 4 year programs in Diagnostic Radiology, and the Basic Sciences (chemical pathology, histopathology, haematology, microbiology, and immunology).
• Second Fellowships: 3 year programs are offered in Nephrology and Urology, and a 2 year program in Infectious Diseases.

SIUT also offers 5 years training for MS/MD in Urology and Nephrology in addition to a 2 year MPhil and a 4 year PhD in Basic Biomedical Sciences.

Residents from other medical institutions in Pakistan and the region also rotate or come for short term training at SIUT as the institute serves as a local as well as regional training centre for Pakistan, Afghanistan and the SAARC countries.
