Urolithaisis is a major problem in Pakistan. It is the formation of specially symptomatic and neglected stones which often cause obstruction to urinary systems.Untreated stones often invite infection to the urinary tract and further contribute to renal failure.
Two decades have witnessed dramatic change in the management of patients with Urolithaisis. The trend has suffered from traumatic open surgical removal to minimally invasive uriterscopic disintegration to non invasive extraenporeal shockwave lithotripsy.
Now with the advancement of technology and improvement in techniques in noninvasive (ECEC) and minimally invasive endoscopies, renal and ureteral stones can be treated successfully. The acceptance of treatments by patients has received a positive response and has resulted in less morbidity and mortality over the years.
