Research & Education

In addition to state of the art health care, the SIUT is committed to the training of postgraduates, doctors, medical technologists and nursing staff to meet service needs. Research is also an intrinsic part of education in medicine and is given great importance at SIUT. In 2009 the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan granted a degree awarding status to SIUT as an independent educational institution.

Postgraduate Training at SIUT

There are well over 250 trainees in various fields under urology, nephrology and transplantation. The SIUT prepares doctors for Fellowships and Memberships of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan as well as research-based masters and doctorates in Urology, Nephrology and Biological Sciences. Residents from other medical institutions in Pakistan and the region also come for training at SIUT as the institute serves as a local as well as regional training centre for Pakistan, Afghanistan and the SAARC countries.

Research

Research is an integral part of education and training at SIUT. Research is conducted by faculty, graduate and postgraduate students in clinical and basic laboratory sciences as well as biomedical ethics.

Ethical Review and Approval

All the research studies involving animals and human subjects whether as individuals or communities are subject to an ethics review to ensure the safety and rights of the subjects before a study can begin. Any change in conditions that could affect the rights of subjects during a study must also be approved for the study to continue.
