Hematuria
(Blood in urine)

• Blood in urine seen on naked eye is called gross Hematuria.
• Blood in urine seen on microscope is called as Microscopic Hematuria.

should be investigated even if occurs once
May be a cause of either very benign disease or life threatening malignant disease

Causes

• Urinary tract infection
• Stone disease
• Prostate diseases
• Bladder cancer
• Renal cancer
• Ureteric cancer
• Tuberculosis

Immediate consult to Urologist is mandatory.

Diagnosis

• Ultrasound
• X-ray IVU
• CT scan
• Cystoscopy

Treatment

• Medicines
• Removal of stones
• Endoscopic treatment for enlarged low grade bladder cancer, ureteric and renal pelvic cancer.
• Surgery for renal tumor, high grade bladder and prostate carcinoma
• Radio chemotherapy in certain situation.
