IN-PATIENT
SERVICES
WARD: The ward consists
of 24-beds with different sections for the female, male
and pediatric groups. As we're focused to provide the
tertiary care facilities, we prioritize the patients'
admissions according to these criteria.
ICU: ICU has got 6-beds and is fully
equipped with all the monitoring and interventional
facilities. It also has got all the facilities for the
Basic and Advanced Life Support. The expert critical
care for the adults and pediatric age group is available
all the time.
EMERGENCY SERVICES: It is provided
at the main ER centre, SlUT.
OUTPATIENT SERVICES
CLINICS: Held twice weekly, each clinic
accommodates more than 150 patients from across the
country and includes a substantial number of pediatric
and GI surgical cases as well. The bulk of the patients
comprise of Hepatitis B & C related Liver diseases.
Moreover the follow up of liver transplant patients
is carried out on regular basis.
ENDOSCOPY AND ERCP: State of the art
facilities of both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies
and ERCP are available at SlUT. Four days of the week
are reserved for the routine procedures so as to keep
pace with the burden. About 35-40 procedures are being
performed weekly. The facility of chromoendoscopy is
also available at SlUT which is rare elsewhere in Pakistan.
Even the most expensive procedures are being done free
of cost which include band ligation, injection sclerotherapy
of varices, PEG tube insertion and various other kinds
of stent insertions and therapeutic ERCPs. All these
services are available under one roof. Already catering
renal transplant patients, these services are fully
capable of gearing towards liver transplant program.
ONGOING RESEARCH:
Local data towards the epidemiology
and statistics of the liver and GI diseases is scarce
and there is a dire need for the research purpose. A
lot of research work has been started here and further
enhancement will be made in due course.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES:
The department is fully recognized by
College of Physicians and Surgeon (CPSP) for training
in gastroenterology and hepatology. This is an acknowledgement
of the academic and teaching environment and the potential
to train young doctors and post-graduates. The specific
GI-related academic activities include journal clubs,
teaching rounds, grand rounds, histo-pathology and radiology
meetings, etc.
